Lift your hands
Lift your heart
Lift your eyes
Lift your self
`
Worship your friends
Worship your foes
Worship your dog
Worship your toes
Worship your cat
Worship your home
Worship your boss
Worship Jerome
Bless on your blessings
Praise on your praise
Pray for your pleasure
And glory always
Bless on your blessings
Praise on your praise
Pray for your pleasure
All of your days
Worship your mom
Worship your dad
Worship my dad
Worship your love
Worship yourself
Worship the sky
Worship your gods
And worship our lives
Turn to your friend and look them in the eyes but not for too long because we’re not trying to make anyone feel uncomfortable but at the same time imagine that they're Buddha, Allah, Jesus Christo, Joseph Smith, Marshall Applewhite or whoever. Exalt them - whoa, that’s pretty intense - you probably don’t like that. I’m not worthy of your praise. Because we’ve been told to make ourselves small. Lessen ourselves before something greater. So be a little sacreligious, a little pagan, a little secular tonight. Hopefully, we don’t cause too many friend rifts over this intense level of emotional vulnerability.
And maybe take out your phone and turn on that selfie mode and push that little boomerang button. Say hello to that broadcasted reflection in the mirror. Because that’s what it is ya know, a modern version of an age-old inanimate object that allows us to stare deep inside of ourselves. Selfies have been around for a long time, they’ve just never been so permanent.
Now gaze lustfully into your own eyes - fall in love with yourself - or, it doesn’t have to be romantic, maybe it's more like that Greek Phileo, sisterly, brotherly sort of thing.
Philadelphia. That’s what you are - an individuated city, a complex world of emotional highways crisscrossing neighborhoods of chaos - sometimes you’re speeding fast down the road (but hopefully not texting) and sometimes you have to make a u-turn where it’s illegal. Sometimes you hit traffic, you get in accidents, and sometimes you’re singing at the top of your lungs.
And you don’t care who’s watching.
Throughout history people have been doing this -
Creating beliefs.
Things that keep them going.
So create a new belief, a religion of one.
Cult is all around us anyways.
And you don’t care who’s watching.
And you don’t care who’s watching.
And you don’t care who’s watching.
Bless on your blessings
Praise on your praise
Pray for your pleasure
And glory always
….All of your days.
Worship your worship your worship your worship
